Peat Moss Septic System

How Eco-Pure Peat Moss Biofilters eliminate or reduce MOUNDED septic system

Engineers who designed septic systems built before 1990 were not required to address high water table issues. These older systems’ disposal fields were constructed with no regard for the high water table, thus, during the high water table season (winter) these disposal fields were partially or completely under water. This did not allow for any septic tank effluent to be properly filtered before dripping back down into the groundwater, causing pollution during this time of year.

In 1990, a new septic code was written, requiring engineers to address high water table issues. This new code gave homeowners, needing to replace their systems, and whose property is in a high water table, only one option; they had to install a mounded septic system. Not only does a mounded septic system detract from the home’s aesthetics, in many cases, it may reduce the home’s ability to sell.

Thanks to Eco-Pure Peat Moss Biofilter technology this is no longer the case. The enclosed, water-tight Eco-Pure module (which replaces the conventional disposal field “Zone of Treatment”) can be set in the water table, allowing no ground water to enter, keeping the “Zone of Treatment” dry. Septic tank effluent leaves the tank, and by gravity or through the use of a small horsepower effluent pump, will flow out to the Eco-Pure module. The effluent will drip over layers of peat moss, producing a 99.9% pure wastewater by-product. This cleaned effluent is carried out to a disposal bed for evaporation into the air and percolation into the water table.

Pictures tell a thousands words…

Property has a high water table, requiring a MOUNDED septic system.  Disposal field is required to be in a dry environment and must sit above the water table, meaning it will be build up and out of the ground, sometimes as high as 5-7’, as seen here.

Front yard mounded disposal fields take away from a property’s aesthetics and value, making resale potentially difficult.

Sellers of this home installed a conventional MOUNDED septic system.  The new buyers, as well as the neighbors, were outraged how the mound had ruined the aesthetics of this property’s front yard and the neighborhood.  They came to New Jersey Septic Management Group and hired them to remove the mound and replace it with Eco-Pure Peat Moss Biofilter technology.
